I’m Katie Kutny, I strive to motivate, inspire and help you create the blog of your dreams. If you’re ready to follow your passion, pursue your dreams and live your life to the fullest – then you’re at the right place. And I want to support you on your new journey!
I also enjoy sharing tips on how to earn and save money. I love teaching and helping others. That is my passion!
I believe in not giving up, working hard, praying to God for help, forgiving others, being kind, helping those that need help, learning new things so I can grow as an individual and focusing on what matters the most!
I have been a blogger and writer for 10+ years! I have learned so much along the way.
Who are you and where are you from?
I´m Katie, professional blogger, graphic designer and photographer based in the suburbs of New York. I love the beautiful atmosphere of Saratoga and Lake George! I have climbed buck mountain, tongue mountain, prospect mountain and black mountain. I also enjoy going to Thatchers park. I am a country girl at heart and I want to have my own home in the country someday! I have a daughter + two birds.
When did your journey with blogging begin?
My adventure in the world of blogging began back in 2005. I learned about other bloggers. I was always reading their articles on their blogs and learning new things. At this time I also created OOAK babies and sold them on Ebay. My daughter was born around this time so I would work on my OOAK creations and learn about blogging when she was napping and when she was in bed at night.
I bought my own domain names and hosting. And learned all about Worpress, social networking, getting traffic and writing keyword optimized content. I didn’t always write keyword optimized content. One time I wrote this one article and it was not even long and it ranked for a keyword. And I made so many sales on Amazon.
Are there any Blogging Tips you want to share right now?
Yes! Pick something your passionate about and write about that. If you pick something your not passionate about it will be hard to find things to write. And you won’t be as happy. So if you love dancing, write about dancing. If you love photography, write about photography. Share your passion with others. Teach them what you know. And grow with them along the way! Never stop learning and growing. Its so important.
One of my favorite books I really recommend you to read is “How Successful People Grow” by John C Maxwell. I could not put this book down!
What does a typical day in the life of Katie Kutny look like?
I get up around 7am Monday thru Friday to help my daughter get ready for school. I help her find an outfit, make her breakfast, do her hair and make sure she has everything all ready for school. And then she gets on the bus. And then I make breakfast for my hubby and myself. I love eating eggs with gluten free toast and fruit on the side. Sometimes I add avocado on my toast with my eggs. Its actually quite good!
After my husband leaves for work, I start working on my blog. And then I work on Pinterest between 1-3pm since those are the best times to pin stuff, follow people and like other peoples pins. After that I work on my blog some more. I aim for creating one article everyday. And then sharing it on Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter and Google+
Then during the evening I have dinner with my daughter, help her with homework, watch a movie with her and then she gets ready for bed. Then I work on my blog some more. I listen to some of my favorite songs, And then I exercise for 30 minutes. Relax and go to bed.
Can you name some of your favorite bloggers and explain why they are your favorites?
Yes. Some of my favorite bloggers are John Chow, Darren Rowse, Katie Did What and Abby Lawson.
John Chow is one of my favorites because he was the first blogger that got me interested in blogging. He inspired me. I liked how he shared photos and got personal on his blog. And I liked all his blogging tips and I liked how he would reply to comments people left him. He would also write me back when I emailed him. He is not stuck up. And that is what I like most about him! When some people get famous they get stuck up and won’t even give you the day! I like how he still acts human and is kind.
Darren Rowse also got me interested in blogging. I loved the posts he shared and I even bought his book about blogging. I learned some very valuable tips about blogging from him. And like John, Darren is friendly as well. I once created a post and mentioned him in it. And John and Darren both left me comments on my blog, thanking me for mentioning them!
Katie Did What and Abby Lawson have very pretty looking blogs and they both share beautiful photos & amazing posts xo
What inspired you to start your blog?
Other Bloggers inspired me to start my blog. I love how they would share photos, posts and personal messages on their blogs. I also liked how they would grow on their blogs. From nothing to something. They just kept growing and growing. And their growth inspired me. I was like, hey I want to create a blog and grow it as well. A blog is like planting a seed, watering it, placing it near the sun and watching it grow. You need to take care of your blog. You need to posts articles. Respond to comments. Share it on social sites. And just keep taking care of it.
Blogs don’t grow big in one day. They are like flowers. It takes time for them to grow. But when you take good care of them. They blossom so beautifully. And the whole worlds starts talking about them. And can’t get enough of them. Like flowers, blogs can grow and grow and grow.
How do you motivate yourself to keep the blog up
I look at things I dream about and want in life. I look at dream homes, walk around furniture stores, look at inspirational quotes, look at successful blogs, listen to happy music, I believe in myself and tell myself that I can be successful and my blog can grow! I add successful people to my Facebook. Having positive successful people around you is so important.
Stay away from negative pessimistic people that put you down and tell you that you can’t be successful. Those you have to avoid like the plague. You need to stay around positive people! Soak up their positivity. Even if it feels uncomfortable some days. You need to change your mindset. From I can’t to I can!
In the future where do you hope your blog will take you?
I hope my blog takes me far in life. Takes me to new places. New destinations in the world. I would love to travel, take photographs of the places I travel. Meet new people on my blog and places I travel to. Grow with my blog. Learn new things. Motivate and inspire others. And watch others create successful blogs. And read their success stories. I would love that!
Do you have any specific goals for the rest of this year?
Yes! I want to write one post everyday and grow all my social accounts. I want my social accounts to have 10K+ followers by the end of the year. And for my traffic to increase to 100K visitors a month by the end of the year as well. I have heard of people successfully doing this using Pinterest. So lets see how well I do. xo
Did you have any professional help or did you create the blog yourself?
No, I didn’t have any professional help from anyone. I created my blog all by myself. I like to create all my blogs by myself. I have been blogging for over 10+ years using WordPress Platform. So creating a blog does not take long for me. The whole process is pretty fast. But I do enjoy tweaking themes. And making them my own masterpiece. I like to add new code to themes. New graphics. And my own content.
I do add my own photographs to my blog. And I do find free photographs from Pixabay and Pexels. And will use some of those as well. I like making my blog look professional and unique at the same time. I don’t want my blog looking 100% like someone elses. Branding is important. Being different and standing out is so very good for bloggers.
What do you think is the best social media strategy for getting more visitors to a blog?
I think the best social media strategy to get more visitors is to post on social networks when people are on them. Find the best times to post on social networks. Share your new articles that you posted on your blog on these different social networks everyday. I will list what I think is good below to give you an idea of what I do.
Pinterest: Pin, Follow, Like other peoples things. Share your posts on your boards and other peoples boards. Do this around 1-3pm and around 8pm at night Eastern time. Make sure to add your own boards to the top of your Pinterest Boards on your profile. So people see them.
Facebook: Create a Facebook page that looks professional & friendly. Share your posts on your page. And Join groups that relate to your “niche”. And Join 50 groups. Share your posts on these groups. The best times to post on Facebook is 9am, 1pm and 3pm.
Would you encourage other people to make and start their own blog?
Of course! Creating a blog is one of the best things you can ever do for yourself. You get to meet amazing people. You learn new things. You grow as a person. And creating a blog builds you as a person and individual. When your blog grows, you grow. You grow together. And if you want to earn money with your blog. That is very possible. I have seen so many blogs grow and people earning thousands a month.
I recommend and encourage you to create your own blog. Learn how to start a blog step by step with this tutorial.
